20 Actions in 20 Days
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: the election is happening right now. This time around, it’s not just about what you can do on November 3. With 20 days to go, we’re counting down with actions that we know can make an impact.
Here are 20 things you can do in the next 20 days to make sure we win:
- Check your voter registration status (yes, even if you’re already registered to vote). Make sure to double-check your status — some states aren’t required to inform you when they purge the voter rolls.
- Register right now if you have to. If you’re all set, skip to #3. Every state sets their own key voting dates — some allow you to register as late as Election Day, but most have strict deadlines. Make sure you’re prepared by registering to vote as soon as possible.
- If you’re planning to vote by mail, request your ballot right away. Voting by mail is safe — even the president does it! Because of COVID-19, some states have transitioned to all mail-in voting, so make sure to plan ahead. If you meet your state’s requirements to vote absentee, make sure to apply for or request your ballot as soon as you can. Then, mail it back by the deadline (again, every state is different) or drop it off at your local ballot drop boxes.
- If you’re planning on voting in-person, consider voting early. The election doesn’t only happen on November 3 — many states allow you to vote early to avoid long lines on Election Day. Since some states are only accepting mail-in ballots, be sure to check out your options and make a note of your state’s early voting deadlines. Then, grab your mask and hand-sanitizer and head to the polls at your designated precinct!
5. Encourage a hesitant voter: this election is just a jumping-off point for transformative change. Share Barack Obama’s DNC speech for some added motivation!
6. Take this pledge to triple your vote. Multiply your impact by getting three people you know to turn out and vote. Once you’ve signed the pledge, check out our message templates and tips on how to start reaching out.
7. Call, tweet, and email your senators using our Save SCOTUS hub. Keep fighting and keep calling — it’s definitely making a difference. We still only need 2 more senators to win this thing!
8. Sign up to phonebank today. After a quick training, you’ll be ready to take part in one of the most effective forms of voter contact right before the most critical election of our lifetimes.
