Even bigger breaking news: it’s not just Sen. McSally. There are many, many more problematic senators that have assisted in the tearing down of our democracy. And while impeachment most certainly won’t be their final act, it damn sure was the final straw.

Indivisible is taking on 10 of the most vulnerable (and replaceable) Republican senators, all of whom have almost exclusively voted to the benefit of Trump and the detriment of their constituents. So consider Senator Martha McSally of Arizona the first of our 10 targets who need to be exposed, held accountable, and come November, replaced.

OK, where were we? Ahh, yes, Senator McSally, who clearly has a habit of doing that whole projecting-her-bad-qualities-on-others thing… hence, why it’s really important that we let everyone know that Martha McSally is, in fact, the real hack!

Here’s the deal: McSally has voted in support of Trump’s policies 95% of the time! She’s proven that her top priority is not advancing the interests of her constituents but instead protecting Trump. She has put Trump before her country, before the Constitution, and before Arizonians who voted her into this office… wait a minute! Arizona definitively voted against her run for Senate. McSally lost her race in 2018 but was appointed to fill John McCain’s seat until the 2020 election. In short, she’s decided she’s perfectly fine being an assured “yes” vote for Trump in the meantime.

Seriously, let’s dive in a bit more. Sen. McSally voted:

• NO on impeachment — as well as NO for more witnesses and evidence to further uncover up Trump’s abuses of power in the impeachment trial.
• NO on stopping war with Iran — she repeatedly voted against resolutions that would prevent war with Iran.
• YES on repealing the ACA — as a House member, McSally voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act and rip health care away from millions of Americans.
• YES for the Trump tax scam — as a House member, McSally voted for Trump’s $2 trillion scam, which gave massive tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations.

In short, McSally has been faithfully voting to advance the Trump agenda, while making NO EFFORT to advance legislation that the House of Representatives has passed, including:

• For the People Act (H.R.1) — democracy reforms that would expand voting rights, go after corruption, and reform campaign finance.
• Lower Drug Costs Now Act (H.R.3) — to reduce the costs of prescription drugs and expand benefits for Medicare beneficiaries.
• Bipartisan Background Checks (H.R. 8) — require background checks for private gun purchases.

Seriously, does Trump live in Arizona (oh wait, there’s definitely a Trump hotel in Phoenix!)? Well, now it’s time for PAYBACK! Senate Republicans have shown us what’s important to them — keeping power for themselves and their party.

Beating Trump won’t be enough to stop this. As long as there’s a Republican Senate, nothing will get done. That’s why we’ve launched the Payback Project: a million-dollar campaign over the next nine months to defeat the 10 worst Republicans and take back the Senate.

Our strategy is straight forward: yes, we could just set our sights on canceling McSally, or getting rid of Graham, or trashing Tillis, or ejecting Ernst, or sending Perdue packing, but after years of Senate Republicans enabling Trump and destroying democracy, we have to do more.

Here’s how we’ll do it:

01. Build awareness & accountability.

When one of the ten Payback Project senators takes bad votes or do something else awful, we’ll be in their states to broadcast it and hold them accountable for refusing to listen to constituents

02. Boost local political power.

We’ll do the work to get as many people involved in the election as possible, educating folks about what’s at stake, growing local people power by, funneling voters in these nine states directly to their local Indivisible groups.

03. Organize to win.

Our nationwide network of organizers will work directly with groups on the ground to leverage their power with voters, the candidates, and the media to build support for strong progressive challengers.

04. Get out the vote.

We’ll run a robust GOTV campaign to turn as many people as possible out to the polls. Remember — these senators thrive on disenfranchisement, so it’s our job to make sure voters show up to kick them out.
