Indivisible endorses Ben Wikler for DNC Chair
by Leah Greenberg, Indivisible Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director
For the last few months, in all the spaces we talk to Indivisibles, one question comes up over and over again:
“What on earth are we going to do about the Democratic Party?”
Indivisible leaders organize locally nationwide. They know that the ability to turn out voters to stop MAGA depends on a healthy, well-organized Democratic Party. And too often, that’s not their experience on the ground.
The second question that comes up is: “Can you please endorse Ben Wikler for DNC Chair?”
That’s because our leaders know that Ben is the real deal. And that’s why when we polled our leaders this week, we got back a truly resounding 93% vote to endorse Ben for DNC chair. Indivisibles know that he is the leader our party needs to take the fight to Trump and MAGA, and to ensure that grassroots voices are heard.
As the chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, Ben Wikler has proven himself to be an unparalleled force in electoral strategy, mobilization, and progressive leadership. Under his leadership, Wisconsin — long considered a critical swing state — delivered crucial victories that helped secure the White House in 2020 and held the line against far-right extremism in 2022. His track record is not just one of winning elections but of empowering grassroots activists and building a movement that is both resilient and effective.
The Indivisible movement is built on the idea that real change comes from the bottom up. Our members have knocked on millions of doors, made countless calls, and organized their communities to resist authoritarianism and advance progressive values.
We need a DNC chair who understands that grassroots activists are not just an auxiliary force, but the backbone of the Democratic Party’s success. Ben Wikler is that leader. His leadership in Wisconsin serves as a model for what the Democratic Party can achieve nationwide when it listens to, invests in, and empowers grassroots activists.
Furthermore, Wikler’s commitment to democratic values and his ability to inspire and unite diverse coalitions make him the best choice to lead the DNC into the future. His experience navigating tough political terrain, coupled with his deep understanding of digital organizing, fundraising, and strategic messaging, positions him to harness the energy of the grassroots and translate it into tangible electoral victories.
We cannot afford to have a DNC that operates from the top down. We need a leader who recognizes that lasting political power is built from the bottom up. Ben Wikler has shown time and time again that he is committed to building that power — not just for one election, but for the long haul.
Personally, Ezra and I first worked with him back in 2017 in the fight to save the Affordable Care Act, and we remember the moment he told us he was heading back to Wisconsin with a plan. His record in Wisconsin speaks for itself — revitalizing the party, turning the tide in the state with strategic wins in the Supreme Court, and outperforming every other swing state in the 2024 elections. He’s a stellar organizer, a true partner to the grassroots, and the kind of fighter we need in leadership to win.
As an independent grassroots movement, we’re not an arm of the Democratic Party. But we understand the stakes of this moment. The GOP has been wholly captured by the fascist movement. That means that the Democratic Party is our vehicle for fighting back and protecting our democracy, our values, and our neighbors. As independent actors, we’re free to call out and push the Democrats when they fall short. But that also means we have an obligation to recognize when real leadership emerges and points the party in the right direction.
The first week of Trump’s term has made clear that we are facing a five-alarm fire for our country. We need a Democratic Party that can fight back — and win. That’s why we need Ben Wikler.
