Indivisible announces its fourth round of congressional endorsements

We’ve talked to local groups, we’ve vetted candidates, and we’ve counted the votes. And now, we’re excited to announce Indivisible’s fourth round of national endorsements for the 2020 election cycle (our full slate of candidates can be found here)! These national endorsements elevate the candidates preferred by the grassroots, showcasing a new class of leaders who reflect the values of the Indivisible movement.

We’re so grateful to the local groups who nominated these candidates — this process wouldn’t have been possible without their help every step of the way.

Our fourth slate of nationally endorsed candidates are:

We’re proud to announce our endorsement of Chris Bubser (CA-08), Harley Rouda (CA-48), E. Thomasina Marsili (IN-08), Hank Linderman (KY-02), Cynthia Wallace (NC-09), Sri Kulkarni (TX-22), Julie Oliver (TX-25) and Ben Ray Luján (SEN-NM):

• Chris Bubser was propelled into public life in 2017 when she dedicated herself to protecting affordable healthcare after Republicans’ failed attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Now she is running to represent California’s 8th district to defend the district’s natural resources and to fight for its people. She is committed to putting the needs of people before the interests of corporate donors. We know she will be a strong voice in Washington for the 8th district and that she will fight for meaningful progressive reform.
• In 2018, Indivisible endorsed Harley Rouda to represent California’s 48th district and we are proud to endorse him again. He is determined to be an accessible representative who will prioritize the needs of his constituents. Harley has shown his commitment to fighting for the 48th district and we know that he will continue to fight for meaningful and lasting change when he is re-elected in November.
• As a person who has worked in emergency services for over 30 years, it is part of E. Thomasina Marsili’s DNA to show up to emergencies — and she believes we are going through one of the biggest emergencies of our lives. Thomasina is running to represent Indiana’s 8th district to fight for higher-paying jobs, better access to quality education, and economic security. She has shown her commitment to working Hoosiers and we’re confident she will be the champion they need in Congress.
• Hank Linderman is running to represent Kentucky’s 2nd district because he believes that rural and working-class Americans like those in his district need a congressperson willing to fight for their interests, not those of corporations. He is running a grassroots campaign dedicated to shifting the balance of power back to the people and building a rural progressive Democratic power. We are excited to endorse Hank and show that Democrats can win everywhere.
• Cynthia Wallace has been a Democratic Party chair for NC’s 9th Congressional District for three years and in that role, she worked hard to flip the 9th congressional district along with other local races. She also saw how Republicans committed election fraud to maintain control and decided it was time the 9th district got a representative they could trust. Cynthia is running because she believes people deserve a congressperson who will support progressive reform and fight for their rights. She has the support of the people she has volunteered with tirelessly for years and we’re excited to join them in this fight.
• Ben Ray Luján is running for the Senate because he believes New Mexicans deserve a champion dedicated to solving the unique challenges facing their state. He has spent his years in the House of Representatives fighting for New Mexicans and is ready to continue his good work in the Senate. For Ben Ray Luján, keeping New Mexico’s Senate seat in Democratic hands is part of how we will act on the most urgent issues facing Americans. We know that he will be a Senator who will prioritize the needs of New Mexicans and work hard for the progress the entire country needs.
• Indivisible endorsed Sri Kulkarni in 2018, when he came just a few points short of defeating his Republican opponent. We’re endorsing Sri once again to represent Texas’ 22nd district because we know he is still committed to the progressive values he ran on in 2018, and his grassroots campaign has only gotten stronger. In 2018, Sri’s campaign ran a groundbreaking campaign that canvassed and phonebanked in 16 different languages, reaching parts of the 22nd district that had often been ignored by past campaigns. Sri knows that Democrats need to engage new voters and we are confident that this year he will flip the 22nd district and be a force for progressive change in Congress.
• Julie Oliver was another Texas candidate whom we endorsed in 2018 and also came closer than ever to flipping a red district. We are endorsing Julie to represent Texas’ 25th district once again because she has shown she is still committed to the issues that matter and is again running a people-powered campaign. Julie was spurred to run after seeing Republicans attack the healthcare of the sick, the elderly, and people with disabilities. She wants to go to Congress to stand up for these people instead of taking away the services their lives depend on. Indivisible is proud to endorse Julie and is committed to fighting alongside her, in the campaign trail and in Congress.

We’ll see this work through — by registering voters, door-knocking, text-banking, and much, much more. Indivisibles can help change the power landscape and endorsing progressive candidates is just the first step.

These eight candidates are great, but we know that there are many more races out there where your groups’ endorsements, and a subsequent national endorsement, can make all the difference. Much like with previous rounds, your initiative could catapult a local race into the national spotlight!

We’re thrilled to be receiving so many amazing candidates from so many groups around the country. As you can imagine, this has been a lot of work for both groups and our staff over the past 6 months of endorsements, and there are still six more months of investing in these critical races. To keep up with such a huge and necessary program, we’ve budgeted nearly a million dollars to support it.
